doggy treats

Many of us dog owners tend to spoil our furry family members with tasty treats - at the very least I do this. Wary of the bulk-food dog treats you find at the pet store, I prefer to make my own.

Incredibly easy, fast and edible for both people and pets!

The baking of doggy treats is usually precipitated by the presence of really ripe bananas. This morning, there were 3 black-speckled beauties lying wait in the fruit bowl. Long ago, these were fodder for the compost. With economy in mind, these little treasures are a fav with my furry diva.

No goof-up recipe

  • 3 mashed super ripe bananas
  • and big huge glop of natural peanut butter (no salt, no suger - not good for dogs)
  • mush up together with strong wooden spatula (awesome workout for my aging arms)
  • will look like thick pudding
  • now add quick oatmeal flakes - lots of them, maybe 2-3 cups
  • keep stirring it in (you won't need the gym today)
  • once it gets to hard to mix in stop - its blended enough
its now probably still wet/sticky, you'll need to add the final ingredient
use spelt/ kamut or rice flour, and knead this in by hand until you have a dough that no longer sticks to your hands. Sort of like bread dough

roll out and use creative cookie cutters
bake at 300 for about 1hr
then at 200 for 1hr
you want a slow, long bake. This makes the cookies extra hard - dogs LOVE the crunch!

Please, never give your dog white or wheat flour!!

Be sure to share these yummy treats with your dog - cuz I know that once you taste them, you'll be munching these down almost faster than your dog.
